The Birds [Haiku]

The evening birds chirp
haunted tree-borne echoings
foretelling the dusk.

Tired twilight lays
on jagged mountain pillows
its eyelids heavy.

A quieting cold
Settles into the dark earth.
Time seems to stand still.
